Alzheimer's is a slow, progressive, terminal disease of the brain.
Every seven seconds someone in the world is diagnosed with Alzheimer's.
No one is immune to Alzheimer's.
Alzheimer's has impacted two generations of my family.

Our family's journey with Alzheimer's began in the 1970's when my grandmother was diagnosed with "hardening of the arteries in her brain".  My mother helped care for my mother until she was ultimately moved to a healthcare facility.

After my grandmother's death, my mother prayed no one she knew or loved
would ever fall prey to the disease.  In 2001, my mother's biggest fear became her reality when she, too, was diagnosed with Alzheimer's.

My father cared for my mother in their home and, as the disease progressed, I helped my father care for my mother until her death in December 2007.

After my mother passed, I spent several years writing and interviewing over 100
sons, daughters, grandchildren and professionals who had cared for a loved one with Alzheimer's.

In November 2010, my book, I Love You, Who Are You?:  Loving & Caring for a Parent with Alzheimer's was released.  It is a guidebook for anyone caring for someone with Alzheimer's - from initial diagnosis to the end of the journey.  It is the book I wish I'd had during the years I helped care for my mother.

May we all, one day, know a world free of Alzheimer's.
